Gerald Jay had another barium swallow test today. His GI doctor requested a new barium swallow test to see where he is at on the the swallowing (disphagia - difficulty of swallowing) issues.
Gerald aspirates when he drink the un-thickened fluid. We normally give him fluid that is honey thick consistency, and he does better on that. I think we did it for a long period of time. It was two years since his last test. Today, I was happy to know that he is slowly improving in terms of swallowing. He is now down to nectar thick which is less consistency than before. I am crossing my fingers that he will continue to improve on his feeding issues.
Also, he has been trying new foods. He actually ate peanut butter sandwich and noodle. I mean literally swollowing the bread and noodle. We have not received any feeding service since February of 2009. I was hard, because I don't know how to teach him to eat. He come a long way, and I hope he will continue to eat orally.
