IEP Meeting and Attendance letter
February 27, 2012 IEP Meeting
We had a great IEP meeting at School. I am so proud of my son Gerald Jay that he improves a lot most especially his behavior. We had a lot of positive feedback from the therapist and teacher. Also, we dis continued his physical therapy at school since he already met his goals.
The team that work with Gerald Jay at school are awesome! and we all in the same goal for him.

I received a letter from school about Gerald Jay's attendance being late and not going to school. This one is just made me irritated. I already told them that GJ is having therapy every Monday morning and he gets to school approximate 8:10 to 8:20 am. Then, they keep sending back home if he throws up after feeding and charge him for being sick. Also, when is sick I didn't sent him since that is so contiguous, I know why it contiguous because he got it from his two sisters. I took him to the doctor and have a letter for that. Just so irritating! I asked them about the excuse letter from the doctors if I should file one and they said "no" it won't be necessary! And now I am receiving this stuff....Just so irritating

Student of the Month!
Gerald was selected as the Student of the Month in his class. The school conduct a student of the month Luncheon with the principal. Well, I feel awful that I missed it. I was too wrapped-up with my own school stuff, and I forgot my son's important event at school. If he understand and can talk he would probably asking me why? I am so sorry, baby. I will do better next time!
Special thanks to his teacher and teachers aids for being there to attend with him and to Dr. Saunders...Thank You All Very Much!!!

KC's new hair cut
Today, my daughter and I had a hair cut courtesy by Jem V. Kathlyn did a great job sitting while Jem was cutting her hair, although she was quite a little wiggly costumer. It was just a slight trim, because I want to see her hair grow longer when she turn 5 years old. Her hair color is completely different than mine. My hair is black and her's is light brown :-).
Thanks ate Jem for cutting my hair...I love it!
This is my new hair style ...with bangs :-)
Thank you very much Jem for the free home service and hair cut!
Sick Day
At 4 o'clock in the morning I heard noises in the living room. It was my husband and Gerald doing something early in the morning. When my husband came back in the bedroom, I asked him why they woke up too early. He said that Gerald has been using the toilet every five minutes since 3 o'clock in the morning. Wow! I didn't ever hear any commotion for one hour? I must have been in my deep sleep.
Anyway, we decided to keep GJ at home today and did not send him to school. At 7:30a he probably used the toilet more than twenty times. Imagine how uncomfortable that is to have diarrhea. So, most of the day I only feed him pedialyte to keep his electrolytes balance and hoping that he will feel better soon. I don't know why my kids get always sick towards the weekends every time and doctors offices are closed on weekends! I can't take him to the pediatrician not until Monday, and I don't know how long do I need to keep him on pedialyte. I only fed GJ a can of pediasure before bed, because I gave him aspirin. Other than that, he was completely pedialyte fed throughout the day. Hmmmm, now who am I gonna ask for in this kind of situation...think think think!

Teacher / Parents Conference
Gerald Jay is awarded as a student of the Month!!! Yay!
I had a conference with GJ's teacher. I actually seen his improvement since the past year, and we are all glad that he is learning. The teacher Ms. S said that Gerald has changed a lot since the last first time in kindergarten. He is still be delayed in many areas of his growth and development, but at least he is moving in the right direction. At school, he is the life of the party even though he is not talking. Ms. S said that he always makes her happy because Gerald would mumble words and followed by laugh. He does it to me too and Ms. S and I have the same answer which is " what did you say? I wish I could understand what you just said". Sometimes I look at my son and always feel that I neglected being his first teacher, but I am so glad to see him running around and healthy as he could be. He may be very delay in language and speech but he is so smart. I am hoping that one day he will just tell me in full sentence " don;t worry mom, I will be alright".
And he was awarded as a student of the month! Yehey! I am really proud of him.
So far he learned:
- to write his full name without tracing it ( but he have a very sloppy hand writing. We will work on that extensively)
- he is counting clearly from 0-10, but from 11 and so on it wasn't clear at all ( I know most children starts counting when they were at 2 1/2 to 3 years old)
- his attention span increase from 1 minute to 5 to 10 minutes. If he like the particular activity, he could stay in that activity for half hour or more though.
- he finished 100 books challenged before Christmas ( we actually read it to him and he stayed most of the time.
- he loves his new gadget and learn more from it (leap pad).
Over all the meeting went well and Gerald got a positive feedback from his teacher. I also like the nurse at his school because she is so involved in GJ health and academic goal.
Thanks to Ms. S and Nurse M.
and
Praise be to God!

The lost COW!
Gerald had a favorite fluffy cow. It was given to him by his Uncle when he was 6 months old. Ever since he had that cow it has been his favorite toy amongst his stuffed animals. When he was two year old or barely two years he lost it but after four months we found it in the safe. The joy in his eyes when he found that cow was priceless. He asked for it every day and he even say " the cow is gone" that was his very first and last complete sentence that I heard from him since. He is still not talking clearly right now, but he uses sign language sometimes.
Anyway, couple weeks ago he lost his cow again. My husband and I have been searching for the cow since last week and even to this very day and seen no signs of cow in our house or our property. He has been asking for it even waking up in the middle of the night looking for his cow. We asked him many times where he put his cow, but I guess he couldn't remember anything. Then, yesterday afternoon when I came back home he pulled my hand and said " cowwww". I said that I couldn't find his cow. But he took me and pointed at to neighbor backyard, so I think he toss the cow over the fence and not realizing that we couldn't get it until we ask our neighbor.
I was a little stressed about it since my husband spent most of his time looking for his cow. SO I went online and was hoping to find one of the same cow that Gj had. I was very fortunate to find three of the same cow on ebay. So, I bought three of them, one is like brand new and the other were used. Well, who cares my son will be happy to see the cow again and he would not care if it his original cow or not ( I am actually not sure , but we will see). Today, the two new purchased cow arrived. I sat on the table and we are so curious of what his reactions is gonna be...
the new cow was waiting for him on the table on sissy's bimbo chair. |
His reaction was pretty much self explanatory in the pictures that I took. It was worth it!
but
He checked it well and he probably say in his mind " they washed her" ;-) This cow is a whole lot whiter than the old one.

CHD Awareness Week!
Today is the start of Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week. One in 100 babies are born with Congenital Heart Defects every year! My son is one of them out of 100 babies that year born with a rare heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He had his very first open heart surgery at 7 days old. He had numerous heart caths and four open heart surgeries and few other side effects. He overcome all of that and right now he is "stable". He very active and he never stops!
Please help us spread CHD Awareness!
I thank God for saving my son's life and thank you Jesus for everything!

School Award
Gerald received another academic award from school. I don't think he really understand that we appreciate his effort, but I am happy to know that he is improving a lot. He might not be talking, but he is definitely learning something. His attention span increase a little bit. At his school they have a program called 100 book challenge that means they have to 100 read books for entire school year. When we started reading to him, he would not stay for five minutes sitting and reading the book. He just want to run around the house and do other stuff. But now I am glad to see him sitting quietly and reading with us.
Anyway, today I went to Gerald's school to show support for my son's education. Mr. G was holding him still because if no one was holding him you will see him run around the stage. He is very active and the more you told him not to run the fastest he go. Anyway, Mr. G is his favorite teacher's aid at school. They take good care of him at school, so I am very thankful for them.
After the ceremony, I ask GJ's teacher if I could take the picture of all of them but I guess special ED kindergarten are hard to redirect and it was hard to take a nice class picture; therefore, I only took Ms. Stone and Gj's photo. As you can see one of his classmate kiss GJ on head. I think it was cute!
Ms. Stone is a wonderful teacher and I thank her for her teaching.
Lastly, I stopped by at the clinic since GJ was due for his feeding. I waited for him and he was so happy to see me again. Posing with Angelina and Nurse Melody. Nurse Melody was very good at him and so nice that he really care about her kids at school. Gerald pre-school nurse was no were close to Ms. Melody's service. I thank her for taking care of him.
